Ku Zhu Shan

For this ripe pu erh, we used tea leaves from ancient trees on Ku Zhu Shan mountain of Jinggu county, processed entirely by hand. Ku Zhu Shan is a revered location among pu erh collectors, and the most valuable tea leaves in Jinggu County are gathered precisely here.

The raw material for this ripe pu erh comes from our relatives, who belong to the Hani ethnic minority. Their ancestors arrived in this area in the early 18th century and established tea gardens that have been tended for many generations. A distinctive feature of some gardens on Ku Zhu Shan is the medium small leaf variety of tea trees, which is not commonly found in Yunnan Province. According to family lore, the seeds for planting the tea gardens on Ku Zhu Shan were brought by the settlers from Kun Lu Shan. This unique origin imparts a particular refinement to the flavour of the finished tea and sets Ku Zhu Shan apart from other tea locations in Jinggu.

The fermentation was carried out in small baskets. We entrusted it to our long time partner and good friend, who has dedicated several decades to tea and has mastered this technique to perfection. His skill allowed us to unlock the full potential of the tea leaves and preserve the natural flavour — reminiscent of the very breath of the misty tea forest on Ku Zhu Shan.

In the light, enchanting aroma, one finds notes of forest, ginger biscuits, and sweet sandalwood. The taste is balanced, rich, and full bodied, with hints of pine needles and noble wood. The liquor glides down the throat as smoothly as silk. This pu erh is an ideal choice for gong fu tea sessions and for proper long term aging.
