This sheng Pu-erh was made from the spring 2023 harvest gathered in the Imperial Tea Garden on Kun Lu Shan.
The tea comes from Lao Shu (old tea trees) aged between 100 and 300 years. On Kun Lu Shan, the term Lao Shu is used specifically for trees within this age range. Many were already growing when tea from this mountain was supplied to the imperial court in the Forbidden City.
Kun Lu Shan is renowned for its old tea gardens, with many trees planted during the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. Lao Shu tea offers an opportunity to experience the character of this historic mountain at a more accessible price than tea made from Gu Shu, or ancient tea trees.
After three years of aging, this sheng Pu-erh still retains the freshness and vitality of spring tea. At the same time, its flavour has begun to settle into greater balance: a gentle sweetness is already present, the astringency feels more integrated, and the ripe-fruit notes have gained depth. The tea is enjoyable now and will continue to develop with further aging.
